Dress Up As Princess Buttercup

Put together a quick Buttercup costume to go with the Man in Black

Buttercup's most recognisable outfits, while she was actually interacting with the Man in Black, were the red riding dress and her blue wedding dress. She makes a great Princess costume, especially when paired with the Man in Black himself.

The Riding outfit is what she wears through the main part of the movie, when she is kidnapped and rescued. Before that, she wore a peasant dress. The Wedding outfit is (obviously) what she wore for the wedding. It's a lot fancier and a bit less practical.

There are no perfect matches for the red dress, but there is a good one for the wedding dress. On the other hand, the red dresses are generally cheaper.

The Riding Outfit

By far the easiest dress to wear is the flowing, yet simple, red riding dress. Too long to walk in easily, it became increasingly torn and tattered throughout the film. She had a gold embroidered belt of cloth wrapped around her waist, which you may be able to find a replacement for at home. She initially wore a gold hairnet with the red dress, but it didn't stay on past her kidnapping.

The Dress

The red dress was very long and flowing, unembroidered, had long sleeves and a high neck and a lot of material.

The best match for the colour, length and sleeves of the dress is the Alyssa Bell Sleeve Victorian Empire Butterfly Dress from HolyClothing.
This brand has several similar dresses, so if you're planning to wear it again (or the red one is sold out) then it's worth looking through them. The Full Skirt Princess dress, for example, has a much fuller skirt and is a lot closer to the draping mass of material in the original dress. They are all available in red, but not always in bright red.

The Belt

Buttercup's belt was extremely long, encrusted with gold, and wrapped twice around her waist.
None of these belts are perfect, so I'd just pick whichever you like the look of, or best matches the rest of your outfit. If you happen to have an extra long gold wrap belt lying around, then use that!

The Wedding Outfit

Princess Buttercup's wedding outfit was a very ornate get up that just shouted "royalty". Unlike modern wedding dresses, she wore pale blue, not white. She had a fancy silver bridal crown at her wedding (and it was a full crown, but you're only likely to find tiaras) and a pearl necklace and rings.

The Dress

The wedding dress was a very fancy blue and silver concoction of embroidery. Again, you'll find no perfect match, but this lovely gown from Artemisia Designs is extremely similar (and the closest out there). It comes in a full range of sizes, and costs just over US$100.

Crown and Jewellery

Princess Buttercup was fully adorned for her wedding in crown, necklace and earrings. The crown was very spiky, and silver. The pearl choker had large pearls and a single strand hanging down in front.
